I’m a New Yorker. Not the kind that has always lived in NYC, but the kind that has lived Upstate in the 845 area code for most of my life. Living at the foot of the Catskill Mountains – that aren’t technically mountains – has molded me into a person who yearns for the outdoors. I will take any opportunity to move my body under the sun and breathe the fresh air.I believe it’s important to intimately experience others’ lives so that we may learn from them and possibly pass those skills on to a larger community. I started crocheting at an early age under my grandma’s tutelage, which gave me the confidence to teach myself knitting. At a weekly workshop and connecting with sheep farms in NY, I’ve learned so much about the history of fiber and what else the hands can create when you possess technical skill, creativity, and courage.
I think we should occupy space with others to work towards something meaningful, and in my life, that’s manifested in different volunteering opportunities. Living Upstate, I was not only exposed to mountains, but also to the food systems sown by my neighbors’ hands. I like to support local agriculture by subscribing to a CSA, but also by getting my hands dirty at farms at home and abroad.
In my alone time, I like to pen my thoughts down about life, living, and our present existence. I’m a strong believer that words and word choice matter, and that we all have to practice this craft every day, in conversation and in writing. Hopefully, the words on this page count for something.
